Content Writer resume do's and don'ts
- Do: Lead with traffic and conversion outcomes: “Grew organic blog traffic from 30k to 110k sessions per month.” Don't: List output without impact: “Responsible for writing blog posts and web copy.”
- Do: Name your SEO and CMS stack — WordPress, Google Analytics, SEMrush. ATS keyword matching is literal. Don't: Write “various content and SEO tools” and expect the parser to infer them.
- Do: Show strategy and SEO, not just writing: keyword research, content strategy, on-page SEO, a content calendar. Don't: Frame the role as churning out posts — that reads as junior scope, not senior writer scope.
- Do: Quantify impact: organic traffic growth, lead lift, ranking improvements, open and conversion rates. Don't: Claim content “performed well” or “engaged readers” with no number attached.
- Do: Link a portfolio and spell out the acronym once: “search engine optimization (SEO).” Don't: Keyword-stuff — repeating “content” thirty times reads as spam to reviewers and scoring engines.
