Project Manager resume do's and don'ts
- Do: Lead with budget and delivery outcomes: “Delivered 22 projects worth $12M with a 96 percent on-time rate.” Don't: List duties without results: “Responsible for managing projects and timelines.”
- Do: Name your methodology and tools — Agile/Scrum, Waterfall, Jira, PMP. ATS keyword matching is literal. Don't: Write “various project management methodologies and tools” and hope the parser fills the gaps.
- Do: Show budget and risk ownership: portfolios managed, under-budget rate, risks mitigated, steering reviews. Don't: Frame the role as scheduling and note-taking — that reads as coordinator scope, not manager scope.
- Do: Quantify delivery: dollars managed, percent on-time, percent under budget, projects shipped, teams led. Don't: Claim you “successfully delivered projects” with no number attached.
- Do: Spell out the acronym once: “Project Management Professional (PMP)” and “risk log (RAID).” Don't: Keyword-stuff — repeating “project” thirty times reads as spam to reviewers and scoring engines.
