QA Engineer resume do's and don'ts
- Do: Lead with quality outcomes and a number: “Increased automated test coverage from 40 percent to 82 percent.” Don't: List duties without results: “Responsible for testing the application before release.”
- Do: Name your exact tools — Selenium, Cypress, Postman, Jira, Jenkins. ATS keyword matching is literal. Don't: Write “various testing and automation tools” and expect the parser to guess what you used.
- Do: Show automation and CI/CD, not just manual execution: suites built, regression time cut, deploys enabled. Don't: List only manual test execution — that reads as junior tester scope, not QA engineer scope.
- Do: Quantify quality: test coverage, defects prevented, regression cycle time, pass rate. Don't: Claim you “ensured quality” or “tested thoroughly” with no metric attached.
- Do: Spell out the acronym once: “quality assurance (QA)” and “continuous integration (CI/CD).” Don't: Keyword-stuff “testing” twenty times — reviewers and scoring engines read that as filler.
